Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, intends to transition community involvement from X platform to Discord.

Cardano’s cofounder, Charles Hoskinson, recently revealed plans to shift a significant portion of the community engagement from X to Discord. Hoskinson expressed concerns over rising hostility and misinformation prevalent on X, prompting the decision to create a dedicated Discord hub for Cardano followers. The proposed Discord environment will focus on fostering moderated discussions and enhancing community collaboration, aiming to move away from what Hoskinson described as drama, false narratives, and persistent hostility that have plagued conversations on X.
Under this new plan, future Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions will exclusively use questions sourced from Cardano and Midnight Discord communities. Midnight, a privacy-focused blockchain project developed by IOG, will play a crucial role in this transition. Despite the move towards Discord, X will continue to serve as the platform for livestream broadcasts due to its extensive reach.
Hoskinson’s frustration with the current social media environment, particularly on X, has been evident for some time. In an April livestream titled “Remember Kids, X Isn’t Reality,” he discussed the challenges faced in managing online engagement and the ongoing development of an artificial intelligence project known as Project Nyx. The platform rules on X, such as the requirement for bot labeling for AI-managed accounts, have posed obstacles that can impact visibility.
A recent analysis conducted by Cardano community member, Christian Taylor, shed light on some of the issues faced within the community. Out of approximately 130 responses reviewed in a thread addressing anti-Hoskinson sentiments, Taylor found that about one-third contained hostile language, abuse, or profanity. The analysis also flagged repeated language patterns and highlighted activity from accounts with minimal anonymity.
The proposed move from X to Discord has sparked a debate within the Cardano community. While some members support the migration to Discord, pointing towards the need for improved moderation and a more collaborative environment, others argue that X remains a vital platform for crypto discussions and industry visibility. Patrick Tobler highlighted that a considerable portion of crypto and technology conversations still take place on X, expressing concerns that shifting discussions to Discord could limit exposure to broader industry debates and criticism.
Despite the divided opinions, Hoskinson emphasized the growth and engagement of the Midnight Discord community as evidence of the increasing interest and involvement. Reports indicated a significant increase in membership from 11,000 to 49,000 over the past six months, underscoring the potential of Discord as a platform for fostering community interaction and collaboration. Hoskinson’s strategic move to transition discussions to Discord reflects a proactive approach to addressing the challenges of hostility and misinformation prevalent on social media platforms, ultimately aiming to create a more conducive environment for constructive dialogue and community engagement.
