Bitcoin mining company to build large data center in eastern Kentucky

A Bitcoin mining company, TeraWulf, has unveiled plans to expand its operations in eastern Kentucky with the acquisition of the Muskie Data Campus, a high-performance computing development site. This campus has the potential to accommodate over one gigawatt of data center capacity in the future, with an initial 500 megawatts projected to be operational by the latter half of 2028, and an additional 500 megawatts slated for 2030.
Situated on approximately 1,000 acres within the Eastpark Industrial Park, the Muskie Data Campus boasts around 285 acres designated for hyperscale development, offering ample room for expansion. TeraWulf emphasized that this project is linked to significant power enhancements, which include the installation of a 345-kilovolt substation that connects to the 765-kilovolt transmission network, ensuring the provision of reliable, utility-scale power to the site.
