SpaceX recently made history by entering the public market through a monumental IPO that valued the company at an impressive $2.1 trillion. This IPO not only highlighted SpaceX’s core businesses, such as its launch division, satellite network, and artificial intelligence endeavors but also shed light on the company’s substantial bitcoin treasury.

In a Form S-1 amendment filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on June 3, 2026, SpaceX disclosed that it held an astonishing 18,712 BTC on its balance sheet. With a cost basis of $661 million and a fair value of $1.293 billion as of March 31, 2026, this bitcoin position showcases the company’s confidence in digital assets.

The implementation of updated accounting rules in 2024 altered how SpaceX reports its bitcoin holdings, resulting in a $496 million increase in digital assets and a corresponding reduction in accumulated deficit. The filing also made it clear that SpaceX has complete ownership and control over its digital assets, which are held by third-party custodians.

Elon Musk, the man behind SpaceX, also made headlines as the world’s first trillionaire following the successful IPO. Musk, who has previously disclosed personal holdings in various cryptocurrencies like bitcoin, ethereum, and dogecoin, has further solidified his position in the crypto space through his companies’ significant bitcoin holdings.

Tesla, another of Musk’s ventures, holds a substantial 11,509 BTC on its balance sheet. When combined with SpaceX’s 18,712 BTC, the total bitcoin holdings of Musk-related companies amount to an impressive 30,221 BTC. This places SpaceX among the top-tier public companies in terms of bitcoin holdings, ranking eighth on the list, ahead of industry giants like Coinbase Global and Riot Platforms.

Jeff Park, a partner and portfolio manager at ParaFi Capital, praised SpaceX’s bold move in building such a substantial bitcoin treasury, emphasizing the company’s low average cost basis. He noted that SpaceX’s visionary approach to its corporate treasury, with an average cost basis of $35k, sets it apart as one of the most forward-thinking companies in America.

Michael Saylor, the Executive Chairman of Strategy, also weighed in on SpaceX’s IPO, highlighting the growing trend of corporate adoption of bitcoin. He mentioned that 25% of the “Mag8,” a group of influential companies, now hold bitcoin on their balance sheets following SpaceX’s momentous IPO, indicating a shifting tide towards greater institutional confidence in digital assets.

Overall, SpaceX’s historic IPO not only brought the company to new heights in the public market but also showcased the company’s bold and innovative approach to treasury management through its substantial bitcoin holdings. The growing trend of corporate adoption of bitcoin further solidifies the cryptocurrency’s role in long-term treasury strategies and underscores the increasing institutional confidence in digital assets.
