Ethereum, along with other cryptocurrencies, experienced a significant downturn on August 5, which has been referred to as “crypto black Monday.” The price of Ethereum (ETH) plummeted to $2,100, marking a substantial 22% drop in a single day, the largest since May 2021. The price continued to decline, falling by 3% in the following 24 hours to around $2,430 by August 8. Despite a modest recovery, ETH remains down approximately 24% over the past week.

Market activity surrounding Ethereum-related financial products has shown mixed signals. On August 6, spot ETH ETFs witnessed a notable inflow of over $98 million, while there was a net outflow of about $24 million on August 7. This volatility has sparked interest in understanding Ethereum’s future price movements amidst the current market turbulence.

Experts have shared insights into Ethereum’s performance and potential prospects amid recent market turmoil. Michaël van de Poppe highlighted two significant developments for Ethereum. Firstly, he noted that ETH has become deflationary, with its supply decreasing annually by 0.812%. This shift indicates a positive trajectory for Ethereum’s value as more ETH is being burned than created.

Additionally, van de Poppe pointed out the robust on-chain activity, particularly with the DeFi platform AAVE generating substantial revenue through trading. This resurgence in DeFi, a key use case for Ethereum, suggests potential growth opportunities for ETH.

Van de Poppe also highlighted the rapid demand growth for ETH, surpassing the new supply inflow into ETH ETFs. This trend indicates that Ethereum might be undervalued and poised for a significant price surge if the current demand sustains.

Furthermore, Ethereum’s technical upgrades, notably the implementation of Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 4844, have enhanced the network’s scalability and reduced fees for users. This upgrade has significantly improved the user experience and scalability of the network, leading to increased activity on layer 2 solutions and a positive outlook for Ethereum’s economic prospects.

Looking ahead, experts have shared Ethereum price predictions for the coming years. For 2024, forecasts range from a minimum of $2,184.14 to a maximum of $5,289.03, with an average price of $5,085.90. Predictions for 2025 and 2030 also indicate potential growth, with estimates suggesting an upward trend in Ethereum’s value.

While these forecasts provide insights into Ethereum’s potential growth, it’s essential to approach them with caution due to the volatile nature of the crypto market. Conducting thorough research and investing wisely are crucial considerations in navigating the dynamic landscape of cryptocurrency investments.
