Wall Street transitions from testing to adopting Ethereum

The traditional financial sector is transitioning from viewing blockchain as an experimental technology to actively incorporating Ethereum-based solutions into their core business operations. Vivek Raman, founder of Etherealize, expressed this sentiment in an interview with CoinDesk, highlighting the shift from pilot projects to actual integration of public blockchains as operational infrastructure by major banks and asset managers.
Stablecoins were among the first use cases adopted by institutions, followed by tokenized assets such as stocks, bonds, real estate, and investment funds. Raman emphasized Ethereum’s dominant position in the stablecoin market, liquidity provision, and institutional adoption as contributing factors to this trend. Despite increasing interest from traditional finance players, the price of ETH has not yet reflected this uptake. Raman attributed this lag to slow transaction processes in traditional finance and the time gap between building infrastructure and on-chain asset transfers.
Ethereum is currently undergoing a transitional phase, with much of its foundational infrastructure in place but without a visible impact on the cryptocurrency’s price due to the scale of adoption not being fully realized. Raman suggested that the market may reassess ETH’s role as an asset securing the network in the future.
While facing criticism over organizational changes and evolving roles, Raman defended the Ethereum Foundation’s commitment to upholding core network principles like security, censorship resistance, privacy, and open standards. He advocated for the foundation to continue its work on long-term initiatives such as Zero-Knowledge Proof technologies and protection against quantum threats.
Raman proposed evaluating Ethereum’s success based on adoption levels, user numbers, sustainable asset volumes, and network utility rather than solely relying on its price. In a separate development, David Hoffman, co-founder of the Bankless educational platform, disclosed reducing his ETH holdings and expressed a lack of expectation for a significant structural revaluation of the coin in the future.
