Charles Hoskinson calls for apology following accusations that Midnight will disrupt Cardano
April 7, 2026
Cardano’s founder, Charles Hoskinson, recently found himself at the center of controversy surrounding the Midnight sidechain and a debate about a one-way bridge. Hoskinson vehemently denied the criticism coming from the community, dismissing it as a false narrative. He went so far as to demand a public apology from Dave, a stake pool operator and Cardano representative, who had raised concerns about Midnight harming the ecosystem.
The debate escalated when Dave pointed out that Midnight seemed to function as a one-way bridge, allowing tokens to move from Cardano to Midnight but not back the other way. This assertion by Dave sparked a heated response from Hoskinson, who insisted that it was a misrepresentation of the situation. He warned that allowing such claims to proliferate could be detrimental to Cardano as a whole.
As tensions continued to rise within the community, Hoskinson also engaged with a user claiming to be a significant holder of Midnight tokens. The user threatened to sell off their holdings and disengage from the ecosystem if Hoskinson continued to alienate core community members. In response, Hoskinson maintained that he was simply advocating for responsible dialogue within the community and emphasized the importance of Cardano’s growth and maturity.
Despite the controversies surrounding Midnight, Hoskinson highlighted that the sidechain had piqued interest in Cardano, even prompting venture capital firms to take a second look at the platform. He noted the financial benefits that participants had derived from Midnight, including multiple revenue streams for stakeholders like Dave.
Addressing concerns about Midnight being launched as a sidechain rather than a layer 2 solution, Hoskinson explained that the partner-chain concept had been part of Cardano’s design since its inception in 2016. He emphasized that the plan to introduce a two-way bridge for moving tokens between Cardano and Midnight had been disclosed early on and was set to be implemented after the mainnet launch.
The crux of the issue lies in determining whether Midnight’s structure will effectively scale Cardano’s ecosystem. If the promised two-way bridge and ecosystem synergy come to fruition, the controversy may dissipate. However, if these initiatives fail to materialize, it could exacerbate distrust within the community and undermine Cardano’s progress.
In light of the significance of the Midnight project for Cardano, Hoskinson stressed the importance of resolving the ongoing disputes within the community. He underscored the potential value that Midnight could add to Cardano, emphasizing that continued discord could ultimately jeopardize the platform’s future. Hoskinson’s call for an apology from Dave underscores the seriousness of the situation and the need for constructive dialogue moving forward.
