On March 12, 2026, BlackRock unveiled a new product called the iShares Staked Ethereum Trust ETF (Nasdaq:ETHB), which is an exchange-traded product (ETP) that allows investors to gain exposure to spot ether while potentially earning income through staking a part of its ether reserves. This new addition to BlackRock’s digital asset suite expands their offerings, which include the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) and the iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA), two of the largest ETPs in the market with assets under management exceeding $55 billion and $6.5 billion, respectively.

The iShares Trusts operate differently from investment companies registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940, making them subject to different regulatory requirements compared to mutual funds or ETFs registered under the Act. BlackRock’s introduction of ETHB comes at a time when investors are increasingly including digital assets in their portfolios for strategic diversification. According to Jessica Tan, Head of Americas for Global Product Solutions at BlackRock, ETHB offers investors a convenient and transparent way to access income and exposure to digital assets.

Ether, as the native token of the Ethereum network, provides investors with a gateway to the growing economic activities on the Ethereum platform. By staking the Trust’s ether holdings, investors can potentially earn additional returns on top of their spot ether exposure. Robert Mitchnick, Global Head of Digital Assets at BlackRock, highlights Ethereum’s crucial role in the ongoing expansion of blockchain technology and the development of decentralized applications. He emphasizes that ETHB, by combining ether exposure with staking rewards in an ETP, presents investors with a significant opportunity to engage with the evolving digital asset ecosystem.

ETHB carries a sponsor fee of 0.25%, with a one-year waiver that reduces the fee to 0.12% for assets under management up to $2.5 billion. BlackRock, as a key player in the digital asset market, manages approximately $130 billion in assets related to digital assets, solidifying its position as a leading asset manager in this space. With the launch of ETHB, BlackRock continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and meeting the evolving needs of its clients while upholding the transparency and risk management standards associated with the BlackRock brand.
