Bitcoin Mine in Chonburi Closed for Massive Electricity Theft in Thailand

Hey there, did you hear about the Bitcoin mine in Chonburi that got shut down for stealing electricity? It turns out that nearly 1,000 Bitcoin mining machines were seized after authorities discovered that the operation had tampered with its power meter to use electricity for mining without paying for it.
The Crime Suppression Division (CSD) and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) worked together to uncover this electricity theft in the Phanat Nikhom district of Chonburi. They seized a total of 996 Bitcoin mining machines and related devices from the site.
The PEA estimated that the operation had stolen electricity worth hundreds of millions of baht, although the exact amount is still being determined. An employee at the site admitted to police that the electricity theft only occurred at night to avoid suspicion.
Although the responsible company or individuals have not been identified yet, the CSD plans to seek court warrants for their arrest. It’s a serious situation, but an important reminder of the risks involved in cryptocurrency mining, which requires massive amounts of electricity to operate those powerful computers.
