New Ethereum Gaming Arcade BSMNT Debuts on Base Network B3.Fun

A new web-based crypto arcade called BSMNT, also known as Basement, has recently launched alongside the introduction of a gaming network named B3.fun. These platforms are built on top of Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network Base, as the chain begins to embrace more gaming activities. BSMNT offers crypto versions of popular Web2 games like Breakout and Crossy Road, as well as established Web3 games like Nifty Island and Mighty Action Heroes. Players are encouraged to connect their wallets before “minting” the games they wish to play.

BSMNT.fun is hosted on B3.fun, a novel Ethereum gaming network constructed on top of Base. Although not explicitly labeled as a layer-3 network, it shares characteristics with other layer-3 networks, such as Xai, an Ethereum gaming chain developed on the layer-2 Arbitrum technology.

Layer-2 networks are designed to enhance scalability and alleviate some of the challenges faced by layer-1 networks like Ethereum. The addition of a layer-3 network on top of this further refines the process, giving developers greater control over functionality.

The Xai network retains Arbitrum’s core functionalities while making adjustments to enhance the experience for game developers, such as increased control over gas fees and other variables. As Xai introduces new games, it aims to become the Valve of Ethereum gaming, positioning itself more as a publisher than a conventional network. Recently, the team behind Aavegotchi revealed plans to launch their own “members only” layer-3 gaming chain called Geist, utilizing Base and Arbitrum technologies.

Developed by NPC Labs and ChainSafe, B3 prioritizes the gamer experience by enabling developers to create games that can operate across Ethereum, Base, and other Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chains like Avalanche. The network aims to streamline the onboarding process for games from various chains, including Solana and The Open Network. NPC Labs, founded by former Coinbase employees, secured a $21 million fundraise in July to support these endeavors.

The launches of B3 and BSMNT.fun coincide with Coinbase’s Base network’s increasing involvement in crypto gaming. Coinbase has offered free items and currency for Ethereum trading card game Parallel, while Atari recently launched a retro arcade on the layer-2 network where players can compete for prizes through a weekly leaderboard.

In conclusion, the crypto gaming landscape is evolving rapidly, with new platforms and networks emerging to enhance the gaming experience and provide more opportunities for developers and players alike.
