Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Not Discussed in Trump-Musk X Space Event
An exchange between Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump garnered more than 1 million viewers on X, without any mention of cryptocurrency throughout the two-hour conversation.
During the in-depth discussion, topics spanned from illegal immigration and the economy to artificial intelligence and climate change. The event was delayed for over 45 minutes due to what Musk described as a “significant distributed denial of service attack on X.”
Regarding the alleged attack, Musk remarked, “As this massive attack illustrates, there’s a lot of opposition to people just hearing what President Trump has to say.” However, doubts were raised by a report from The Verge, suggesting a high probability that Musk’s claim was inaccurate. Cybersecurity monitoring group Netblocks noted international disruptions on X Spaces but did not confirm a DDoS attack.
Prior to the interview, Polymarket users anticipated a 65 percent likelihood of “crypto” being discussed, with bets exceeding $600,000. Another market emerged to predict the mention of “bitcoin,” peaking at 69% with around $330,000 at stake. Participants stand to earn $1 in USDC, a stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar, for each correct prediction.
Interestingly, Polymarket did not feature markets for references to other digital assets like ether, solana, or dogecoin. Betters also wagered over $250,000 on Trump mentioning “Tesla,” reaching a peak of 79%. However, Trump avoided the term, instead referring to Musk’s electric vehicles as “your cars.”
Among the words bettors anticipated Trump would mention, including “MAGA,” “illegal immigrant,” and “tampon,” one user named ‘bama1234’ emerged victorious, earning over $1 million for predicting Trump’s statements accurately. Their most substantial bet was on Trump not mentioning “crypto,” resulting in a payout of $336,918.
Not all predictions were correct, as the user missed on Trump saying “MAGA” and “Trans,” which did not occur during the interview. While cryptocurrency has gained political attention, with Trump discussing crypto policy at the recent BTC 2024 conference, it remains absent from mainstream events such as the first presidential debate in June.
